Wente 2004 Zinfandel - Beyer Ranch (California)

(October 27, 2017) ... As a fan of Zinfandel these old versions excite me, and this Wente pushed all my buttons from nose to palate to finish. The aromas burst from the glass within minutes of opening (my fairly aggressive pour probably helped) chocolate, plum, hints of forest floor, spiced-raspberry and subtle earthy notes; palate proved to be silky with telltale Zin notes of cola and plum plus some interesting older flavours like spiced-balsamic-raspberries and stewed fruit all with a long finish that brought cedar and vanilla to the after-party.
