Silvano Piacentini Selection 2009 Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore (Italy)

(January 21, 2016) ... The first month of the year, and first few wines all had a similar theme: Veneto and Italy, as I pulled out this bottle of 7 year old Ripasso wine; I remember it being great in its youth and now it's pretty decent in its aging. It definitely shows signs of age, but not too much: it's a little prunish, but with leather, chalky notes, and bittersweet chocolate; it was also smooth and retained a good amount of acidity.
