A Treasure Trove of Reds (Spain / Canada / Australia)

28 Dec 2018

(September 2, 2017) ... Climbing the ladder of age from 2006 to 2014 and from a small array of countries:

Lan 2006 Crianza (Spain) ... You gotta love how well Spanish wines age, and this LAN is a delight for those who like 'em aged: smoky, cedar, spiced-raspberry, balsamic-strawberry, and cinnamon all come out in this 11 year old wine.

Henry of Pelham 2012 Cabernet-Merlot, Estate (Ontario, Canada) ... A big vintage for reds in Ontario and Henry took full advantage with this Cab-Merlot blend, and it still has plenty of life left in it: spicy and still quite tannic, so it needs time in glass or even a slight decant, but once there the cassis, blackberry, cedar, cocoa, and black raspberry really wow. Surprisingly this one is still on shelves.

Mollydooker 2014 The Boxer Shiraz (Australia) ... Looking for 16% alcohol wines? Molly has you covered, their wines just have lots of booze and in the good ones you can barely tell. This one is big and rich and slightly jammy with its blackberry, black cherry and vanilla; that 16% is very well hidden.
