Taste it Again / Lost & Found: Tale of 2 Pinot Noirs

17 Sep 2015

Tonight's Best Wine(May 9, 2015) ... Brutal and beautiful, today's wine tasting version of beauty and the beast ... and in that order. We'll start where I did, with a Lakeview Cellars 2005 Pinot Noir Reserve, I really had so much trouble with this wine from the word "go" ... Leathery, oxidized, bitter, and it sadly got worse from there - there was little to no redeeming features to this wine.

With that still lingering on the palate I opened a Flat Rock 2007 Pinot Noir ... in all honesty I have always liked the entry level Pinots from the Rock in hot vintages and 2007 definitely was. The wine still seems to have a freshness of fruit and some pretty good tannins, along with smoky notes, good acidity, black cherry - dried strawberry and oak spiced-craisins on the finish ... Smooth, elegant and very sippable. Not sure how much longer you'll wanna keep this, but I think you'd be okay another 2 years ... But still think sooner rather than later.

The Lakeview is a Lost in the Cellar selection, while the Flat Rock's original review can be found by clicking here
