(August 8, 2019) ... 2012 seems a longer way off than just 7 years ago, my initial post of this wine on Facebook and instagram indicated the wine was 17 years old (I quickly amended this but was still caught out by two readers) - the wine would have been great for a 17 year old wine, but is still a delight at 7 ... Smoky, mocha, licorice, dried-raspberry, smoked-cherry and an elegant spice comes up right off the top, dig a little deeper and there are hints of oak-char that begin to develop on the long finish. Within an hour the wine has "opened up real nice-like" adding more layers of spice, dark fruit, and bittersweet cocoa ... all with an oak underlay. Pretty impressive - whoever said Merlot was boring and stopped drinking it is missing out on beauties like this.
