From the Cellar

Vina Robles 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon (California)

29 Dec 2016

(November 5, 2016) ... So I'm sitting in my hotel room in Kingston, where I am judging for the Judgment of Kingston - a show down between Ontario (Prince Edward County) Chardonnay and their California counterparts (for your information Ontario won) ... but now I've got some down time and I thought what better way to get away from Chardonnay than to open up a robust California Cab; and I don't think you can get much more robust then this 14.6% alcohol, Paso Robles version (coming to Ontario in the January 7 Vintages release):  sweet plum, black cherry, and extremely rich of dark fruit along with some fine tannin backing - with each additional sip I notice just how rich that fruit is, but there is a lovely, if ever so slight, chalkiness to the finish with hints of oak shavings that seems to keep everything in check.  This one's quite dark and flavourful and will hold nicely in the cellar for 5+ years - and I would say is probably the best red coming out in the Jan 7 release.  (****+)
