Zalto something

From the Cellar

Just because I started a website called doesn't mean it's All-Ontario-All-the-Time. When I kick back at night my mood (and sometimes my curiosity) decides my wine of choice. And the title should read, "Uncorked and Un-Screwed Tonight" ... but that just sounds wrong.

St. Hallett 2002 Gamekeepers Reserve (Australia)

29 Jan 2019

St Hallett

(April 6, 2018) ... A strange little blend of Grenache , Shiraz , Touriga Nacional and Mourvedre - I was surprised to see the Touriga, but the rest made sense for the country that made it: earthy with some dried cherry, white pepper and spice - surprisingly drinkable and even a little stony with a finish that hints at prunes and some drying tannins on the tongue ... this one is pretty much on it's last legs palate-wise, but it smells pretty damn good.

Santar - Volver (Portugal / Spain)

29 Jan 2019

(April 1, 2018) ... A night of old Portugal and more recent Spain ...

Casa de Santar 2000 Castas de Santar (Portugal) ... A Dao blend of 40% Touriga Nacional, 30% Tinta Roriz and 30% Alfroheiro Preto - Lots of forest floor, dried cherry and earthy notes along with licorice, and a surprisingly fresh acidity that carries with it a savoury note - delicious for it's age and would be so even if it were a younger wine.

Tarima HillBodegas Volver 2011 Tarima Hill (Spain) ... A much younger, darker and fruitier wine that has plenty of plum, black cherry, black licorice, white pepper, and mocha. Delicious, full-bodied and worth every sip.
