Taste it Again / Lost & Found

On occasion, I’ll take a wine I like and put it away in a “special box” for a few years to see how it will age … below you will read happened to those wines. On the other hand, there are wines that get “lost” in my wine cellar with nary a review ever written - some have turned into golden Treasures, others supreme Trash and then there are those that fall somewhere in-between (Tolerable). We’ll look at those here too. (New wines are being added all the time so keep coming back):

Taste it Again : Pondview 2012 Bella Terra Cabernet Franc - unfiltered

01 Mar 2019

Pondview 2012 CF

(August 17, 2018) ... This is a check-in to see just how well this wine is holding up ... 2012 was a great red vintage in Ontario and Cabernet Franc would have fair wonderfully well. The original review of this wine was glowing and now, six years later, was I justified in that review? Time to take a look:

The nose is loaded with  blackberry, black cherry, smoky tobacco and some alcohol heat, maybe to be expected based on the vintage, but it's not a deal breaker ... the palate has spicy tobacco with good acidity, nice black cherry, blackberry, and cassis fruit and hints of white pepper kicking around giving it a long finish ... there is still plenty of life left in this bottle, so if you have any you can safely let it lie or pull one out now and give it a try.

Taste it Again : Closson Chase 2011 KJ Watson Pinot Noir

29 Jan 2019

 Closson Chase 2011 Pinot

(June 22, 2018) ... Starting off with this Prince Edward County via Niagara Closson Chase 2011 KJ Watson Pinot Noir on this two bottles open night ... this has always been a pretty well made wine year after year at Closson and the '11 fit the bill upon release and now 7 years later it seems to be doing quite well - nothing startling here: sour and red cherry, with hints of that typical Pinot earthiness;  the palate comes off a little lean but it also has moments where there's a welcome richness ... an interesting dichotomy but I welcomed it.
