Taste it Again / Lost & Found
On occasion, I’ll take a wine I like and put it away in a “special box” for a few years to see how it will age … below you will read happened to those wines. On the other hand, there are wines that get “lost” in my wine cellar with nary a review ever written - some have turned into golden Treasures, others supreme Trash and then there are those that fall somewhere in-between (Tolerable). We’ll look at those here too. (New wines are being added all the time so keep coming back):

(December 18, 2017) ... Colaneri is one of those appassimento wineries that dot Ontario, they just don't do one, they seem to be all dried-fruit ... I personally wish they'd leave some grapes and vintages alone but it seems this manipulation is here to stay. This is their Insieme Red Blend, and at 7 years there are some really pleasant spiced plum and black cherry notes along with the merest hint of volatile acidity and alcohol heat, my advice is to drink up before these characteristics overtake the wine completely (you have another year or maybe two) ... On the palate the alcohol shows through along with some interesting spice mixtures: spiced rum cake and spiced plum pudding. Good news is that the acidity has remained high to keep the wine on the more cleansing side and there's even some vanilla coffee bean on the finish.

(November 25, 2017) ... Back in 2010 Merlot was riding high in Ontario, and '10 was a gorgeous vintage for reds. This Thirty Bench wine started off very slowly with simple aromas of oak and cassis ... But the palate shows so much more, and it layered it all in slowly but surely: a pleasant dark fruit start, then 30 mins later it seems to be very oak oriented, another 20 minutes pass and a fruit explosion occurs plus vanilla shows up too; then the juiciness start to emerge and this wine just takes off. On the finish a spicy / peppery nuance begins to creep in all the while adding in elements of coffee bean and under-brush. What a beauty this is.
